About CapacitorsNZ

CapacitorsNZ is a one-person, NZ-owned shop selling motor capacitors and pump service parts (mechanical seals and motor bearing kits) to DIYers. Pool pumps, HVAC, washing machines, garage doors — the bits that fail when a cheap film capacitor dries out, a pump seal weeps, or a motor bearing starts to rumble.

Who runs CapacitorsNZ

CapacitorsNZ is a one-person operation, run by Trevor Hansen. That's not a marketing structure — it's one person doing the sourcing, the fitment research, the packing, and the email.

The background that matters here is hands-on rather than academic: years spent around pumps and electric motors and the way they actually fail. Seized shaft seals. Bearings that start to rumble months before they let go. The run capacitor that quietly dried out and left a pool pump humming without ever starting.

That's why the catalogue is shaped the way it is. It carries the awkward long tail of µF / voltage / body-code combinations that domestic gear actually uses, rather than a tidy range of round numbers that looks complete and doesn't have the value you need. When you email a fitment question, the answer comes back from the person who chose the part. There is no support tier and no script.

How we work out what fits your machine

Fitment is the easiest thing to get wrong and the most expensive thing to get wrong. A mis-specced capacitor costs you another fortnight. A wrong mechanical seal leaks.

So the data behind the capacitor finder is built from source documents, not guesswork:

  • Manufacturer documentation and published service literature, model by model
  • Cross-reference charts from New Zealand trade catalogues for seal dimensions and equivalents
  • Every model-to-part link recorded against the source it came from

And it's confidence-tiered. Where there's documented evidence for a specific model, the page states it plainly. Where there isn't, the page says so and tells you to read the label on the capacitor already in your machine instead of trusting us.

That's also why some model pages don't carry a µF figure at all. Those gaps are deliberate. We'd rather send you to check the value printed on your old part than be confidently wrong.

What we check before a part goes on sale

Every new line goes through the same checks before it's listed:

  • Specs confirmed against the manufacturer's datasheet — µF, voltage, tolerance, body code, terminal type, physical dimensions.
  • Photos verified against the actual part. Supplier images that didn't match the spec, or carried another retailer's watermark, were rejected rather than reused.

If a listing shows a labelled placeholder image rather than a photograph, that's us not having photographed our own yet. It isn't us hiding what you're buying.

Why we exist

Try sourcing a 30µF 450V CBB60 capacitor in New Zealand and you'll find three options: pay $150 for a "complete repair kit" at a domestic appliance shop, wait weeks for a Trade Me listing that turns out to be the wrong voltage, or roll the dice on AliExpress and hope you get what was pictured. None of those are good.

We sit in the middle of those. We carry the long tail of µF / voltage / body-code combinations a domestic user actually needs, ship them tracked via NZ Post or courier, and have them on your doorstep in 1–3 working days on the common sizes we hold in NZ stock, around 2 weeks on less common values. Specced for NZ voltages and backed by an NZ-registered business, NZ GST, and a real-person DOA guarantee.

How we're different

  • Plain-English specs. Every product page lists µF, voltage, body code, terminal type, and physical dimensions. Not buried in a PDF.
  • We tell you when we don't know. Where we don't have documented fitment for your exact model, the page says so and points you to the value printed on your own part — rather than guessing.
  • One operator. Email reaches a human within a working day. We read everything.
  • Tracked NZ delivery. 1–3 working days on the common sizes we hold in NZ stock, around 2 weeks on less common values, tracked the whole way via NZ Post or courier. Each product page says which applies before you buy.

What we're not

  • An overnight delivery service. If you need a capacitor tomorrow, your local appliance repair shop is the right call.
  • A trade-account wholesaler. Everything is retail, GST-included, NZD.
  • A general electronics shop. We sell motor capacitors and pump service parts (mechanical seals and motor bearing kits) — not board-level electronics (no PCB, radial, or SMD components). On the capacitor side that currently means CBB60 motor-run capacitors: we don't yet stock CD60 start or CBB65 dual-run caps, so if your machine needs one, email us and we'll point you the right way.

CapacitorsNZ is a New Zealand–registered business (NZBN 9429053828903), run by one person — not an incorporated company. You can look us up independently, and we'd rather you did.
