The capacitor listed to suit the Filtermaster SB30 is a 35 µF (35 uF / 35 MFD), 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with core leads. Before ordering, read the µF value printed on your old capacitor: if it says 35 µF, this is the match. If your SB30 shows a different value, order that value instead, because the motor needs the capacitance it was built for.
Choosing the right capacitor for the Filtermaster SB30
The number that matters is the capacitance, printed on the old capacitor as µF, uF or MFD. A replacement should match it, normally within a 5% tolerance, and carry a voltage rating at least as high as the old one. This part is 35 µF at 450 VAC. The core leads let you connect it to the existing wiring rather than to spade tags, so check how your old one is wired before you disconnect it. The same part is also sold on its own as our 35 µF 450 VAC run capacitor.
The same 35 µF 450 VAC rating is also listed for the Ebara DWO 150M.
Signs the SB30 run capacitor has failed
A run capacitor stays in the motor circuit the whole time the motor is running. As it ages its capacitance drops, and the motor gets less help to start and to run efficiently.
- The motor hums but will not turn, or only starts if the shaft is spun by hand.
- The pump trips the breaker or thermal overload soon after switching on.
- The motor runs hot or sounds sluggish.
- The old capacitor casing is swollen, cracked or leaking.
Swapping the SB30 capacitor safely
Turn the pump off at the wall and isolate it before opening the terminal cover. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, so discharge it safely before touching the terminals. Photograph the wiring first so the new capacitor goes back the same way. If you are not confident working on mains wiring, get an electrician to fit it. If the seal is also weeping, the SB30 service kit covers both parts. For other Filtermaster pumps, see our Filtermaster service kits page.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.
