The Davey Dynaprime (label codes 64101, 64102 and 74101) takes a mechanical seal for a 5/8″ shaft. This CapacitorsNZ seal replaces Davey part 47863, the seal number listed for the Dynaprime. The same seal is also listed to suit other pumps, including the Davey Dynaflo, Davey QB Series and Davey 125S and 165S, so compare it with the old seal from your pump before fitting.
Davey Dynaprime seal part number and shaft size
The Davey seal number for the Dynaprime is 47863, and this seal replaces it. It suits a 5/8″ shaft, which is about 15.9 mm. A mechanical seal is made in two halves: a spring-loaded rotating unit that grips the shaft behind the impeller, and a stationary seat held in a rubber cup or O-ring in the pump casing. The two lapped faces run against each other on a film of water thinner than a hair, and that is what keeps water from escaping along the shaft. The same seal is also sold under a plain name as our 5/8″ pump mechanical seal.
Other pumps that use the Dynaprime seal
This seal is also listed to suit the Davey 125S, 165S, 62501 to 62701-3, Dynaflo, Pool Pump 100 to 300, QB Series and Shallow/Deep Well 95S; the Spa-Quip Scorpio; the SpaNet XS-30 and XS-3C; the Waterway PF-25 and PF-35; and the Whirlpool LX JA35, JA50, LP Series and TDA200. These pumps do not have their own seal pages with us, so if yours is one of them, check the old seal against this one and get in touch through our contact page if anything looks different. For other Davey models, see our Davey service kits page.
Signs the Dynaprime seal is leaking
Don’t let a weeping seal carry on. Water creeping along the shaft reaches the front motor bearing, and a seal is a far smaller job than a motor rebuild.
- Water dripping or weeping from the gap between the pump casing and the motor.
- A damp patch, rust stain or white mineral crust under the motor end.
- The pump cutting in briefly with every tap shut, as pressure bleeds away.
Measuring and fitting a Dynaprime seal
If the old seal is too far gone to compare, measure the shaft where the rotating half sat using vernier calipers; it should read 5/8″ (about 15.9 mm). Fit the new rotating half and seat together as a matched pair and never run a new face against an old seat. Keep the polished faces clean and free of fingerprints, use only soapy water to ease the rubber parts into place, and fill the casing with water before the first start, because even a few seconds of dry running can crack a new seat.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the size of your old seal.
