The Davey Prime Jet 115 takes a mechanical seal for a 5/8″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces. This CapacitorsNZ seal replaces Davey part 48801SP and sits behind the impeller, stopping water from running along the shaft into the motor. The Prime Jet 90 and Prime Jet 150 use the same seal. Measure your shaft or compare the old seal before fitting.
Davey Prime Jet 115 seal at a glance
Shaft size is 5/8″, roughly 15.9 mm. The faces are carbon running against ceramic, and the Davey part number this seal replaces is 48801SP, so if a Davey parts list for your pump shows that number, this is the seal to order.
Like most pump mechanical seals, it comes in two halves: a spring-loaded rotating face that grips the shaft, and a stationary seat that presses into the pump body. The two polished faces run against each other on a thin film of water, which is why a seal should never be run dry. The same seal is also sold on its own as our jet pump seal.

Signs the Prime Jet 115 seal has failed
A leaking seal rarely fixes itself, and water that tracks along the shaft into the motor end can take the motor bearings with it. Look for:
- drips or a steady weep from the gap between the pump housing and the motor
- a damp patch, mineral crust or rust streak under the motor
- a pressure system that keeps cutting in when every tap is shut
Fitting a new seal to the Prime Jet 115
Switch off and isolate the power, release the pressure and drain the pump before opening it. Clean the seat bore in the pump body thoroughly, and keep fingers off the polished faces. Use water or a little soapy water to ease the rubber parts into place, never oil or grease. Once it is back together, fill the pump with water before switching on, because even brief dry running can damage new faces.
