The capacitor listed for the Davey Prime Jet 115 is a 30 µF, 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with lug (spade) terminals, sold under the CapacitorsNZ brand. Before ordering, read the value printed on your old capacitor: if it says 30 µF (or 30 uF / 30 MFD), this is the match. If it shows a different number, order that value instead.
Choosing the right capacitor for the Davey Prime Jet 115
Three things need to line up. The capacitance must match the figure on the old part, within about ±5%. The voltage rating must be the same or higher, never lower; this one is 450 VAC. And the terminals and body need to fit the space and wiring you have, which here means a CBB60 cylinder with lug (spade) terminals.
Pumps get rewired and capacitors get swapped over the years, so the old capacitor is the real reference, not the model name alone. The value is usually printed as µF, uF or MFD, which all mean the same unit.
Signs the Prime Jet 115 capacitor has failed
A run capacitor stays in circuit the whole time the motor is running, so a weak one affects starting and running alike:
- the motor hums when switched on but does not turn
- the pump trips the breaker or its overload soon after starting
- the motor runs slow and hot
- the case is swollen, split or leaking
Other pumps listed with a 30 µF capacitor
The Davey Prime Jet 90, Davey Prime Jet 150 and Davey PowerMaster PM450 are listed with the same 30 µF 450 VAC rating. A 30 µF 450 V CBB60 is also sold on its own as our plain CBB60 30 µF 450 V capacitor, and if the seal is due too, the Prime Jet 115 service kit includes both. Whichever page you buy from, go by the number on your own old capacitor.
Swapping the capacitor safely
Turn the pump off at the switchboard and unplug it before taking the cover off. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is removed, so discharge it before touching the terminals. Photograph the wiring before you disconnect anything, then fit the new capacitor wire for wire and secure it so it cannot rattle. If you are not confident working near mains wiring, have an electrician fit it.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.
