The Davey Prime Jet 90 is listed with a 30 µF (30 uF / 30 MFD) run capacitor. This CapacitorsNZ part to suit it is a 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with lug (spade) terminals. A pump may have had its capacitor changed during an earlier repair, so read the µF printed on the old capacitor in your pump and make sure it says 30 before ordering.
Choosing the right capacitor for the Davey Prime Jet 90
Two numbers matter. The capacitance must match the old capacitor, so look for 30 µF (also written uF or MFD) on its label; the replacement should be within about 5% of the original value. The voltage must be the same as or higher than the original, and this one carries a 450 VAC rating.
Terminal style matters for an easy swap. This capacitor has lug (spade) terminals, which take push-on spade connectors, so check your old capacitor has the same style. If your old capacitor has flying leads instead, the wiring will need adapting by someone competent to do it. Our general 30µF 450V capacitor is the same part if you are fitting it to another pump.
Signs the Prime Jet 90 capacitor is failing
A run capacitor helps the motor start and keeps it turning efficiently. As it weakens, you may notice:
- a hum from the motor with no spin, or a pump that only starts after the shaft is nudged
- the overload or circuit breaker tripping soon after start-up
- a motor that runs hot or sounds sluggish
- a capacitor case that has swollen, split or leaked
Other pumps listed with a 30 µF capacitor
The Davey Prime Jet 115, Davey Prime Jet 150 and Davey PowerMaster PM450 are also listed with a 30 µF capacitor. Even so, check the label on the capacitor actually fitted to your pump, as that is the value to replace.
Changing the seal at the same time? The Davey Prime Jet 90 service kit includes this capacitor, and other Davey models are under Davey service kits.
Changing the Prime Jet 90 capacitor safely
A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Isolate the pump at the switchboard or unplug it, wait a few minutes, and avoid touching both terminals at once. If you are not confident with mains wiring, have an electrician fit it.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.
