The Davey Prime Jet 150 takes a mechanical seal for a 5/8″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces. This CapacitorsNZ seal replaces Davey part 48801SP, and the same seal is listed for the Davey Prime Jet 90 and Prime Jet 115. Measure the shaft or compare your old seal before fitting, because 5/8″ is easy to confuse with a 16 mm seal.
Davey 48801SP and the pumps that share it
This seal replaces Davey 48801SP. The same seal is listed for the Davey Prime Jet 90 and the Davey Prime Jet 115, and it is also sold on its own as our jet pump seal.
We also list this seal as suiting several pumps that don’t have their own page here: the Davey Engine Drive 93104-93116, Davey 93124, 93134, 93164, 93254E and 93860, the Poolrite Dominator, the Sta-Rite Duraglass 5PRA5, and the Aquaflo and Watkins XP-2 Circmaster. If your pump is one of these, compare the old seal with the photos before ordering. Seals and kits for other models are on our Davey service kits page.
Signs the Davey Prime Jet 150 seal has failed
On any jet pump the shaft seal sits between the wet end and the motor, so a worn seal usually shows up as water where it shouldn’t be. Replace it once it starts leaking: water running along the shaft into the motor is a common way pump bearings fail. If the motor has also been slow to start, the Davey Prime Jet 150 service kit pairs this seal with a 30 µF (30 uF / 30 MFD) run capacitor.
- Water dripping from the join between the pump body and the motor.
- A damp patch, rust streak or white mineral crust under the motor end.
- The pump cycling on and off with every tap shut, which can mean water is escaping past the seal.
Fitting notes for a 5/8″ seal
A mechanical seal comes in two halves: a stationary seat that presses into the pump housing, and a spring-loaded rotating face that rides on the shaft behind the impeller. On this seal the two faces are carbon and ceramic. Keep both faces spotless and never touch them with greasy fingers. Wet the rubber parts with clean water or a little dishwashing liquid so they slide home; oil or grease can swell some rubbers.
A 5/8″ shaft measures about 15.9 mm, so a metric 16 mm seal looks almost the same. Go by the old seal or the 48801SP reference rather than a ruler alone. Refill the pump with water before the first start, since a dry start can damage new seal faces. Unsure? Send us a photo of the old seal and the pump label.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the size of your old seal.
