The capacitor listed to suit the Pedrollo PKM90 single-phase peripheral pump is a 20 µF (20 uF / 20 MFD), 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with lug (spade) terminals. Before ordering, read the µF value printed on your old capacitor: if it shows anything other than 20 µF, order that value instead, and never fit one with a lower voltage rating.
Choosing the right capacitor for the Pedrollo PKM90
The PKM90 motor is single-phase, and its run capacitor stays in circuit the whole time the pump is going. The replacement needs to match the old capacitor’s µF value, within about 5 percent, and have a voltage rating at least as high as the old one. This one is 20 µF with a 450 VAC rating, which covers a normal 230 V household supply.
Read the value printed on the side of your old capacitor, marked µF, uF or MFD, rather than going by the pump name alone. The PKM90 is one of several Pedrollo PKM models, and a similar-looking pump or a nearby model number is no guarantee of the same 20 µF value. Capacitor details for the wider PKM range are in the Pedrollo PKM capacitor guide.
Signs the PKM90 capacitor has failed
- The motor hums at switch-on but the shaft does not turn, or only starts if the shaft is spun by hand.
- The breaker or the motor overload trips soon after the pump starts.
- The pump runs slow and the motor gets hotter than usual.
- The old capacitor case is swollen, split or leaking.
Same 20 µF rating, other pumps
The same 20 µF 450 VAC rating is listed for the Davey PowerMaster. It is also sold on its own as a 20 µF 450 V CBB60 capacitor. A run capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, so isolate the pump and discharge the old capacitor safely before touching its terminals. If you are unsure, use a registered electrician.
If the PKM90 seal is due as well, the Pedrollo PKM90 service kit includes this capacitor with the seal and both motor bearings.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.
