The Davey Prime Jet 240 takes a mechanical seal for a 1″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces. This CapacitorsNZ seal replaces Davey part 48800SP and Onga 700274, and the same seal is listed for the Davey Prime Jet 200 and Mukmova. Compare your old seal or measure the shaft before fitting so you know it is the 1″ size.
Part numbers the Davey Prime Jet 240 seal replaces
If a Prime Jet 240 parts diagram or the old seal’s packaging shows one of these numbers, this seal replaces it:
- Davey 48800SP (the Davey seal reference for the Prime Jet 240)
- Onga 700274
- Shaft size: 1″, faces: carbon / ceramic
Other pumps that take the Prime Jet 240 seal
The identical seal is listed for the Davey Mukmova, the Davey Mukmova 25301 and the Davey Prime Jet 200. It also suits the Onga 185, which has no separate listing. If you look after more than one of these pumps, one seal type covers them all. The same part is sold on its own as our 1″ jet pump seal. Parts for other Davey models are listed on our Davey service kits page.
Signs the Prime Jet 240 seal is leaking
A mechanical seal has two lapped faces: a spring-loaded rotating face on the shaft and a stationary seat fixed in the pump body. A thin film of water between them lubricates the faces while they seal. Once the faces wear, chip or crack, you will usually notice:
- drips or a wet patch below the gap between the pump casing and the motor
- rust staining on the motor end or the base
- the pump starting by itself now and then with every tap shut, as pressure leaks away
Fitting the new Prime Jet 240 seal
Keep the new faces spotless and do not touch them with your fingers. A smear of soapy water helps the rubber parts slide on without tearing. Press the stationary seat squarely into the housing with its polished face towards the rotating face. Before switching on, fill the casing with water, as even a few seconds of dry running can mark new faces. Unsure? Send us a photo of the old seal first.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the size of your old seal.
