The Onga Leisuretime LTP550 pool pump takes a mechanical seal for a 1/2″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces. Onga’s seal number for the LTP550 is 702789, and this aftermarket seal replaces it, as well as Davey 48802SP. Measure the shaft or compare your old seal before fitting, because the shaft size and the seat in the pump body both have to match.
How to tell you have an Onga Leisuretime LTP550
Check the model on the pump’s label. Look for LTP550, sometimes written with a space as LTP 550. Other pumps in the Leisuretime range carry different numbers, such as LTP400 or LTP750, and those happen to share this seal too, so the seal is the same whichever of those you have. If your label shows a different Onga model, look it up under Onga service kits.
Signs the LTP550 seal has failed
A mechanical seal is two polished faces running against each other: one spins with the shaft, the other sits fixed in the pump body, with a thin film of water between them. Grit, running dry and plain wear eventually score or chip the faces and water starts to get past.
- Drips or a steady weep from the join between the wet end and the motor.
- White scale or rust stains running down under the motor.
- The pump drawing air at the motor end and struggling to hold prime.
- A rough or noisy motor after a long-running leak, which can mean water has reached the bearings.
Part numbers and pumps that share this seal
This seal replaces Onga 702789 and Davey 48802SP. The same 1/2″ seal is also listed for the Davey XP Series, Onga Leisuretime LTP400, Onga Leisuretime LTP750 and Onga Pantera PPP550. It is listed for a long list of other pumps too, including the Davey HP, XD and XF Series, Davey XS Series spa pumps, Davey Aqua-mate 350 and 450, Onga JJ400, Onga 400 Series, Onga PPP750-2 and Wallace Hydrojet 35, 50 and 70. The same seal is sold on its own as our 1/2″ pump seal.
Fitting a new seal to the LTP550
Turn the power off at the isolator, close the valves and drain the pump first. Press the new stationary seat squarely into the pump housing, keeping the polished face clean and free of fingerprints. Slide the spring half onto the shaft, refit the impeller, and never run the pump dry afterwards, because the faces rely on water to stay cool. If the motor is noisy as well, the LTP550 service kit adds the bearings and run capacitor.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the size of your old seal.
