About this part

The capacitor listed for the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 pool pump is a 20 µF (20 uF / 20 MFD) run capacitor with a 450 VAC voltage rating. This one is a CBB60 motor-run type with core leads. Before ordering, read the value printed on your old capacitor: if it shows 20 µF, this is the match, and if it shows a different value, order that value instead.

Choosing the right capacitor for the Onga Leisuretime LTP550

Three things matter when replacing a motor-run capacitor. The capacitance (µF, sometimes printed as uF or MFD) must match the old one. The voltage must be at least as high as the old one; a higher voltage is fine, a lower one is not. And the connections need to suit the wiring, which here is core leads.

The model code on the pump label (LTP550, or LTP 550 with a space) tells you which pump you have, but not which capacitor is fitted. The LTP550 is listed with 20 µF, but always go by what is printed on the capacitor you take out, because a pump may have had its motor or capacitor changed at some point. If the label is unreadable, the Leisuretime LTP550 capacitor guide has more detail, or contact us with a photo of the pump label.

Signs the LTP550 capacitor has failed

On a single-phase motor like the one on this pump, the run capacitor stays in circuit the whole time the motor is running and gives the second winding the phase shift it needs. As it ages it loses capacitance, and the motor starts to struggle.

  • The motor hums but will not start, or only starts if the shaft is given a spin.
  • The motor cuts out on its thermal overload soon after starting.
  • The motor runs hot or sounds laboured.
  • The old capacitor is swollen, cracked or leaking.

Other pumps listed with this capacitor

A 20 µF 450 VAC capacitor is also listed for the AstralPool CX180, AstralPool CX240, AstralPool CX280, DAB K30/70, DAB K35/40, Grundfos JP5, Onga Leisuretime LTP750, Onga Pantera PPP550 and Onga Pantera PPP750. It is also sold on its own as our 20 µF 450 V capacitor. Before you touch the wiring, isolate the power and discharge the old capacitor, because it can hold a charge after the pump is switched off. If the seal or bearings also need doing, the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 service kit includes this capacitor, and other models are listed under Onga service kits.

Before you order

Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.

Questions

What size capacitor does an Onga Leisuretime LTP550 take?

The Onga Leisuretime LTP550 is listed with a 20 µF run capacitor with a 450 VAC rating. Check the µF printed on your old capacitor before ordering.

My LTP550 capacitor shows a different µF value. Which should I buy?

Buy the value printed on the capacitor that came out of your Onga Leisuretime LTP550. The µF needs to match, even if it differs from the listed 20 µF.

Can I use a higher voltage capacitor on the LTP550?

Yes. A capacitor for the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 can have a higher voltage rating than the old one, but never a lower one, and the µF must still match.

How do I know if the LTP550 capacitor is faulty?

If the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 hums without starting, cuts out on its overload soon after starting or runs hot, the capacitor is the first part to check. A swollen or leaking case is a clear sign.

Does the LTP550 capacitor have spade terminals or wires?

This 20 µF capacitor for the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 has flying leads, which are wires that come out of the capacitor body ready to connect.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
