About this part

The capacitor to suit the Onga Pantera PPP750 pool pump is a 20 µF (20 uF / 20 MFD), 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with core leads. It stays in circuit while the single-phase motor runs and provides the phase shift the motor needs to start and keep turning. Read the µF printed on your old capacitor before ordering: if it shows a value other than 20 µF, order that value instead.

Choosing the right capacitor for the Onga Pantera PPP750

Capacitors are matched by capacitance first. The value is printed on the side of the old one as µF, uF or MFD, usually with a tolerance such as ±5%. Fit the same value as the old part. A different value makes the motor run poorly and hotter than it should.

Voltage is the other number to check. A replacement can carry the same or a higher voltage than the original, never lower. This one has a 450 VAC rating, which gives a single-phase pump on 230 V mains a comfortable margin. The core leads connect where the old capacitor’s leads were. More detail is in our Pantera PPP750 capacitor guide.

The pump label may read PPP750, PPP750-2 or Pantera 750. Those codes help you confirm the pump, but the old capacitor is the final word on the µF value. If you are also changing the seal or bearings, the Pantera PPP750 service kit includes this capacitor.

How to tell the PPP750 capacitor has failed

Turn off and isolate the power before touching it. A run capacitor can hold a charge after the pump is switched off, so discharge it safely or have an electrician check it. A meter with a capacitance setting will show whether it has dropped well below its marked value.

  • The motor hums but the shaft does not turn
  • The pump only gets going after a nudge
  • The breaker or the motor’s thermal overload trips soon after starting
  • The old capacitor is swollen, cracked or leaking

Other pumps listed with a 20 µF rating

Our listings for these pumps also carry a 20 µF 450 VAC capacitor: AstralPool CX180, AstralPool CX240, AstralPool CX280, DAB K30/70, DAB K35/40, Grundfos JP5, Onga Leisuretime LTP550, Onga Leisuretime LTP750 and Onga Pantera PPP550. That does not mean every version of those pumps takes 20 µF, so go by the old part on whatever pump you are fixing. The same 20 µF 450 V rating is also sold without model branding as a 20 µF 450 V CBB60 capacitor.

Before you order

Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.

Questions

What size capacitor does an Onga Pantera PPP750 take?

Our Pantera PPP750 listing is a 20 µF 450 VAC run capacitor with flying leads. Always go by the µF printed on your old capacitor, since that is what your motor was fitted with.

Can I use a different µF capacitor on my Pantera PPP750?

Only if your old capacitor is marked with that value. Fit whatever µF is printed on the old one in your Pantera PPP750; a mismatched value makes the motor run poorly.

Is a 450 V capacitor OK on an Onga Pantera PPP750?

Yes. The voltage rating must be the same as or higher than the old one, and a 450 VAC rating gives a single-phase Pantera PPP750 on 230 V mains plenty of margin.

How do I know if my Pantera PPP750 capacitor is faulty?

The usual signs are a motor that hums without starting, needs a nudge to get going, or trips the breaker. A meter with a capacitance setting can confirm it once the capacitor has been safely discharged.

Is this Pantera PPP750 capacitor made by Onga?

No. It is a CapacitorsNZ aftermarket run capacitor made to suit the Onga Pantera PPP750, not an Onga part.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
