About this part

The Onga Pantera PPP550 pool pump is listed with a 20 µF (20 uF / 20 MFD), 450 VAC run capacitor. This CapacitorsNZ replacement is a CBB60 motor-run capacitor with core leads. Before ordering, read the µF value printed on your old capacitor and match it; if the capacitor in your pump shows a different value, choose that value instead.

Choosing the right capacitor for the Onga Pantera PPP550

The number that matters is the µF (sometimes printed as uF or MFD) on the side of the capacitor already in your pump. Go by that number rather than the model name alone. A replacement should match the µF within about 5% and carry a voltage rating equal to or higher than the old one; this capacitor carries a 450 VAC rating. If your old part reads something other than 20 µF, the Pantera PPP550 capacitor guide will help, or you can ask us with a photo of the label.

Signs the PPP550 capacitor has failed

  • The motor hums but won’t turn, or only starts after the shaft is flicked by hand.
  • The pump trips the breaker or its thermal overload soon after starting.
  • The motor runs slow and hot even though the impeller is clear.
  • The old capacitor case is bulging, cracked or leaking.

Other pumps listed with a 20 µF 450 VAC capacitor

The same rating is listed for the Onga Pantera PPP750, Onga Leisuretime LTP550, Onga Leisuretime LTP750, AstralPool CX180, AstralPool CX240, AstralPool CX280, DAB K30/70, DAB K35/40 and Grundfos JP5. It is also sold as a plain 20 µF 450 V CBB60 capacitor.

Fitting the PPP550 capacitor safely

Isolate the pump at the wall before removing the cover. A capacitor can hold a charge after power is off, so treat it as live and discharge it safely, for example across a suitable resistor, before touching the leads. Photograph how the old one is wired, connect the core leads to the same points, and clamp the new capacitor firmly so it can’t rattle against the motor. If you are not confident with mains wiring, have an electrician fit it. Doing a full service? The Pantera PPP550 service kit pairs this capacitor with a seal and motor bearings, and parts for other Onga models are on our service kits for Onga pumps page.

Before you order

Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.

Questions

What size capacitor does an Onga Pantera PPP550 take?

The Onga Pantera PPP550 is listed with a 20 µF 450 VAC run capacitor. Always match the µF printed on the capacitor already in your pump.

My Pantera PPP550 capacitor shows a different µF. Which should I buy?

Buy the value printed on your old Pantera PPP550 capacitor. The µF needs to match within about 5%, so a different number means a different capacitor.

Can I fit a 450 V capacitor if my old one says a lower voltage?

Yes. A higher voltage rating is fine as long as the µF matches your old Pantera PPP550 capacitor; never go lower than the original voltage.

What terminals does the Pantera PPP550 capacitor have?

This 20 µF capacitor for the Pantera PPP550 has flying leads, which connect to the same points the old capacitor's wires went to.

How do I know if my PPP550 capacitor is faulty?

A PPP550 that hums without turning, starts only after a flick of the shaft, or trips the overload often has a weak capacitor, though a jammed impeller or seized bearings can do the same. A multimeter with a capacitance setting can check the old capacitor's µF.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
