The bearing set to suit the Onga Pantera PPP550 pool pump motor is a matched pair of sealed ball bearings, one for the drive end and one for the fan end. Both come together under the CapacitorsNZ name, so the motor only has to come apart once. Compare your old bearings with these before you press them on.
Why both Onga Pantera PPP550 motor bearings are changed together
The two bearings in a pump motor have done the same hours and been through the same heat. When one is noisy the other is rarely far behind, and getting to either of them means stripping the motor down. Fitting the pair at once saves doing the job twice and leaves the rotor spinning true on two fresh bearings.
Signs the Pantera PPP550 bearings are worn
- A grinding, rumbling or high-pitched whine from the motor end.
- The shaft feels rough, gritty or loose when turned by hand with the power off.
- The motor runs hotter than it used to, or the noise changes as it warms up.
- Noise that began after the shaft seal had been leaking for a while.
Other Onga pumps listed with the same bearing set
This bearing pair is also listed for the Onga Pantera PPP750, Onga Pantera PPP1100, Onga Pantera PPP1500 and Onga Leisuretime LTP1100. Parts for the rest of the range are on our service kits for Onga pumps page.
Fitting the PPP550 motor bearings
Pull the old bearings off with a proper puller rather than levering them. When pressing the new ones on, push only on the inner race, using a tube or socket that sits on it squarely; hammering on the outer race damages the balls before the motor has even run. Check the shaft for scoring while it is bare. A leaking seal is a common reason bearings fail early, so fit a new Pantera PPP550 mechanical seal while the motor is open, or get the seal, bearings and a capacitor together in the Pantera PPP550 service kit.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the bearings in your old motor.
