About this part

The bearing set to suit the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 is a matched pair of sealed ball bearings: one for the drive end of the motor, beside the pump, and one for the fan end. Both come together because they wear at a similar rate and the motor has to be stripped to reach either one. Compare them with the bearings in your old motor before pressing them on.

Signs the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 motor bearings are worn

Bearing noise usually builds slowly, then gets loud quickly once the grease inside has gone or water has got in. With the power isolated, spin the motor shaft by hand: a healthy motor turns smoothly and quietly.

  • A grinding, rumbling or high-pitched whine from the motor rather than the wet end.
  • The shaft feeling rough, gritty or notchy when turned by hand.
  • Noise that started after the seal had been leaking for a while.
  • The motor running hotter than usual, or the cooling fan rubbing on its cover as the shaft develops play.

Why both bearings are changed together

The two bearings in a pump motor share the same load, heat and age, so when one is noisy the other is rarely far behind. Getting to either one means taking the motor off the pump, removing the end covers and drawing the rotor out. Replacing only the noisy bearing leaves you doing that whole job again before long, so the set includes both the drive end and the fan end bearing. Press new bearings on by the inner race only, and support the shaft while you do it.

Pumps that use the same bearing set

This bearing pair is also listed for the DAB Jet 82M, DAB Jetinox 90M, DAB Jetinox 110M, Onga Leisuretime LTP400 and Onga Leisuretime LTP750. Worn bearings on a pool pump are often the result of a seal leak, so if water got into the motor, change the LTP550 mechanical seal at the same time or a continuing leak can damage the new bearings too. The LTP550 service kit bundles the bearings, seal and run capacitor, and other Onga models are listed under Onga service kits.

Before you order

Check the old part before fitting: match the bearings in your old motor.

Questions

What bearings does the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 motor use?

The Onga Leisuretime LTP550 motor uses a pair of sealed ball bearings, one at the drive end and one at the fan end. This set includes both.

Do I need to replace both bearings in the LTP550?

Yes, replace both together. The motor of the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 has to be stripped to reach either bearing, and the second one is usually close to worn as well.

Does the Leisuretime LTP400 use the same bearings as the LTP550?

Yes. The Onga Leisuretime LTP400 and LTP750 are listed with the same bearing set as the LTP550, along with the DAB Jet 82M and Jetinox 90M and 110M.

Should I replace the seal when I do the LTP550 bearings?

If the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 seal has been leaking, yes, because water along the shaft is a common cause of bearing failure. The seal is sold on its own or in the service kit.

How do I tell bearing noise from other noise on an LTP550?

Isolate the power on the Onga Leisuretime LTP550 and turn the motor shaft by hand. A rough or gritty feel points to the bearings, while a smooth shaft suggests the noise is coming from somewhere else.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
