The AstralPool CX280 takes a mechanical shaft seal for a 3/4″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces. This aftermarket seal replaces Astral part 75508 and Onga 700270, and the same seal is listed for the AstralPool CTX, CX180 and CX240, the Filtermaster SB20 and SB30, the Onga Leisuretime LTP1100 and the Onga Pantera PPP750, PPP1100 and PPP1500. Measure the shaft or compare your old seal to confirm.
Astral and Onga part numbers this CX280 seal replaces
If you have the old packet or a parts diagram for your CX280, look for one of these numbers. Our seal is an aftermarket replacement for both.
- Astral 75508
- Onga 700270
Pumps that use the same seal as the AstralPool CX280
The CX280 shares its seal with the AstralPool CTX, AstralPool CX180, AstralPool CX240, Filtermaster SB20, Filtermaster SB30, Onga Leisuretime LTP1100, Onga Pantera PPP750, Onga Pantera PPP1100 and Onga Pantera PPP1500.
It is also listed for a long run of other pumps without their own page here, including the AstralPool BX, CX, E-Series and TX, Poolrite Cougar, Enduro and Quietline, Waterco Charger and many Onga and Davies Classic models. The same part is sold on its own as our 3/4″ pool pump seal.
Signs the AstralPool CX280 seal has failed
Leaving a weeping seal tends to cost more later: water that tracks along the shaft can reach the motor bearings and wreck them.
- Drips or a steady weep from where the pump body meets the motor.
- White crust or rust staining on the motor end or the pad below it.
- Air getting in at the motor end, so the pump struggles to hold prime.
- Water pooling under the pump after a run, even when the unions and lid are dry.
Fitting a new seal to the CX280
A mechanical seal has two halves: a stationary seat and a spring-loaded rotating face. On a typical carbon / ceramic pool pump seal, the ceramic seat sits in a rubber cup pressed into the pump housing, and the carbon half goes onto the shaft and runs against it. Replace both halves together and never refit the old seat. Keep the polished faces spotless and skin-oil free, use a little soapy water rather than grease on the rubber parts, and make sure the pump is full of water before the first start so the faces are never run dry.
If the capacitor is due as well, the AstralPool CX280 service kit covers seal and capacitor in one order. Parts to suit other AstralPool pumps are listed under AstralPool service kits.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the size of your old seal.
