About this part

The capacitor listed for the DAB Jet 151 is a 30 µF run capacitor with a 450 VAC rating, in a CBB60 motor-run body with core leads. Before you order, read the value printed on the capacitor already in your Jet 151. If it says 30 µF (or 30 uF / 30 MFD) this is the match; if it shows a different value, order that value instead.

Choosing the right capacitor for the DAB Jet 151

The number that matters is the capacitance. It is printed on the side of the old capacitor as µF, uF or MFD, and the replacement should match it within about 5%. Fitting a higher or lower value changes the current through the start winding and can overheat the motor or leave it weak on start-up.

Voltage works the other way: a replacement must carry the same or a higher voltage rating than the old one. This capacitor is marked 450 VAC, which is a common rating for single-phase pump motors on a 230 V supply. It has core leads, meaning two insulated wires come out of the body rather than spade tabs on top. The same part is also sold as our plain 30 µF 450 V CBB60 capacitor.

Signs the DAB Jet 151 capacitor is failing

  • The motor hums but will not turn, or only starts if you spin the shaft by hand.
  • The breaker or the motor’s thermal overload trips soon after start-up.
  • The motor runs hot and slow and pressure is lower than it used to be.
  • The old capacitor is swollen, cracked or leaking.

Other pumps listed with a 30 µF capacitor

We also list a 30 µF 450 VAC capacitor for the DAB DP151, DAB Jet 200, DAB K30/100, DAB K45/50 and Filtermaster SB20. Motors can be changed or rewound over a pump’s life, so treat this list as a guide and go by the value on your old capacitor.

Swapping the Jet 151 capacitor safely

Switch off and unplug the pump, or isolate it at the switchboard. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, so discharge it safely, for example through a suitable resistor, before touching the leads, or have an electrician do the swap. Photograph the wiring, connect the new leads to the same points with proper crimp connectors, and clamp the body firmly so it cannot rub against anything as the motor runs.

Changing the seal at the same time? The DAB Jet 151 service kit includes this capacitor and the DAB Jet 151 mechanical seal. Capacitors and seals for other DAB pumps are on our DAB service kits page.

Before you order

Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.

Questions

What size capacitor does a DAB Jet 151 take?

The DAB Jet 151 is listed with a 30 µF 450 VAC run capacitor with flying leads. Always confirm by matching the µF printed on the capacitor in your pump.

My DAB Jet 151 hums but won't start. Is it the capacitor?

Often, yes. A DAB Jet 151 that hums but only starts when the shaft is spun by hand usually points to a weak or failed run capacitor. If the shaft will not turn freely by hand at all, check for a seized pump or worn bearings first.

Can I fit a higher µF capacitor to my Jet 151?

No. Match the µF value printed on the old capacitor in your DAB Jet 151. A higher voltage rating is fine, but the capacitance should stay the same.

Does the DAB Jet 200 use the same capacitor as the Jet 151?

Both the DAB Jet 200 and the Jet 151 are listed with a 30 µF 450 VAC capacitor. Check the value on the old capacitor in your own pump before ordering.

What does flying leads mean on the Jet 151 capacitor?

It means the capacitor for the DAB Jet 151 has two wires coming out of the body instead of spade terminals, which you join to the motor's existing connections.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
