The mechanical seal to suit the Davey PowerMaster pool pump (PM200, PM250 and PM350 codes) is a 16 mm shaft seal with silicon carbide / silicon carbide faces. It replaces Davey part numbers 49021 and 49021SP. The same seal also suits the Davey PowerMaster PM450, PACR100, PCCR100 and PCCR150. Check your old seal against a 16 mm shaft before you start.
Davey PowerMaster seal part numbers: 49021 and 49021SP
Davey’s seal number for the PowerMaster is 49021, and this seal also replaces Davey 49021SP. This CapacitorsNZ seal is made to suit that application: a 16 mm shaft with silicon carbide running against silicon carbide. Silicon carbide is a very hard, wear-resistant face material that copes well with fine grit in pool water, but like any mechanical seal it is quickly damaged if the pump runs dry.
A mechanical seal has two halves. The rotating half rides on the shaft behind the impeller, pushed by a spring, and the stationary seat sits in a rubber cup or O-ring pressed into the pump housing. The two polished faces run on a thin film of water, which is what keeps pool water out of the motor.
Signs the PowerMaster seal is leaking
Don’t leave a weeping seal for long. Water that tracks along the shaft into the motor attacks the motor bearings, and a seal is a far smaller job than a motor rebuild.
- Drips or a damp patch under the gap between the pump housing and the motor.
- A crusty mineral or rust streak running down below the motor end.
- The pump losing prime or pulling air bubbles into the basket.

Confirming you have a PowerMaster before you order
Look for a model code such as PM200, PM250 or PM350 on the pump label; it may also be printed as PM 250, PM 350 or PowerMaster PM250. Then measure the shaft where the seal sits and compare your old seal with the new one. If anything looks different, send us a photo through the contact page.
If you’d like to renew the run capacitor while the pump is apart, the Davey PowerMaster service kit pairs this seal with one. Other Davey models are listed on our Davey service kits page.
Before you order
