The mechanical seal to suit the Davey PowerMaster PM450 is a 16 mm shaft seal with silicon carbide on both the rotating and stationary faces. It replaces Davey part numbers 49021 and 49021SP, and the same seal also fits the Davey PowerMaster, PACR100, PCCR100 and PCCR150. Signs the PowerMaster PM450 seal has failed
A mechanical seal is two lapped faces held together by a spring: one spins with the shaft, the other sits fixed in the pump body. Once those faces chip, crack or wear, water finds its way past.
- Drips or a damp patch where the pump body joins the motor.
- Rust or white mineral streaks running down below the motor.
- Air bubbles in the pump basket or trouble holding prime.
- A screech from the shaft area after the pump has run dry.
Davey 49021 / 49021SP part numbers and fitting notes
This seal replaces Davey part numbers 49021 and 49021SP. If either number appears on your old seal’s packaging or a parts list you are working from, this is the matching replacement. To confirm the pump itself, look for PowerMaster PM450, or PM 450, on the pump’s label. Silicon carbide faces are hard-wearing but brittle, so handle them by the edges and keep the lapped faces clean and free of oil or grease.
When fitting, clean the shaft and the seat bore, press the stationary seat in squarely with even pressure, and use a little soapy water rather than oil to help the rotating half slide on.
