About this part

The Davey Silensor SLL400 pool pump takes a mechanical seal for a 5/8″ shaft, and this CapacitorsNZ seal replaces Davey part number 49771SP. The same seal is listed for the Silensor SLL150, SLL200 and SLL300 and the Silensor SLS75, SLS100, SLS150, SLS200 and SLS300. If the pump has been repaired before, compare the old seal with the photos before fitting.

Which pumps use the same seal as the Davey Silensor SLL400

Check the pump label first. On the Davey Silensor SLL400 the model code reads SLL400 or SLL 400.

This seal, which replaces Davey 49771SP, is shared with several other Davey pumps. We list it for the Davey HS50, Davey HS60, Silensor SLL150, Silensor SLL200, Silensor SLL300, Silensor SLS75, Silensor SLS100, Silensor SLS150, Silensor SLS200 and Silensor SLS300. It also suits the Davey HS60-08 and ProMaster, which don’t have their own pages yet.

The same seal is sold on its own as our seal to suit Davey HS50, HS60, Silensor and ProMaster pumps.

Signs the Silensor SLL400 seal is on its way out

A leaking shaft seal is worth fixing early. Water that tracks along the shaft into the motor end is a common reason pool pump motors lose their bearings.

  • drips or a steady weep from the gap between the pump housing and the motor
  • white mineral crust or rust streaks below the motor end
  • the pump drawing air at the motor end or struggling to hold prime (other suction-side leaks can cause this too)

Fitting a new seal to the Silensor SLL400

Turn the power off at the wall and the switchboard, then separate the motor from the wet end and remove the impeller to reach the old seal. Clean the seat recess thoroughly. Press the new stationary seat in square using even finger pressure, and don’t touch either sealing face with bare fingers. Wet the rubber parts with clean water or a little soapy water rather than grease or oil, and keep the sealing faces clean. Never run the pump dry once it is back together, because even a short dry run can overheat and damage new seal faces.

If the run capacitor is also due, the Silensor SLL400 service kit packs this seal with the 25 µF (25 uF / 25 MFD) capacitor. Seals for other Davey pumps are on our Davey service kits page.
