The Davey HS60 pressure pump takes a mechanical seal for a 5/8″ shaft, Davey part number 49771SP. This CapacitorsNZ aftermarket seal replaces 49771SP and also fits the Davey HS60-08, the HS50 and several Silensor SLS and SLL models, so one part covers a range of Davey pumps. Measure the shaft or compare your old seal before fitting.
Signs the Davey HS60 seal has failed
A mechanical seal has two faces: one turns with the shaft and one sits fixed in the pump body, pressed together by a spring. Once grit, scale or running dry has scored those faces they won’t seal again, so the fix is a complete new seal rather than cleaning the old one.
- Water weeping or dripping from the gap between the pump housing and the motor.
- The pump kicking in briefly when no tap is open. That means water is escaping somewhere, and the seal is one of the places to look.
- A wet patch, rust marks or a white mineral crust under the motor end.
- A rough or noisy motor. Water that gets past a worn seal can reach the motor bearings and damage them.
Davey pumps that use the same seal as the HS60
This 5/8″ seal, replacing Davey 49771SP, is listed for the Davey HS50, Davey Silensor SLS75, Davey Silensor SLS100, Davey Silensor SLS150, Davey Silensor SLS200, Davey Silensor SLS300, Davey Silensor SLL150, Davey Silensor SLL200, Davey Silensor SLL300 and Davey Silensor SLL400.
The Davey HS60-08 and the Davey ProMaster take it too. Those two don’t have their own listings, but the same seal is sold on its own as our 5/8″ seal for Davey HS50, HS60, Silensor and ProMaster pumps. Seal and capacitor kits for those and other models are listed under Davey service kits.
Fitting notes for the HS60 seal
Turn the pump off at the wall, drain it, then separate the pump end from the motor to reach the impeller and the seal behind it. Note which way round the old seal sits before you pull it out, and measure the shaft where the seal runs: this seal suits 5/8″, which is about 15.9 mm.
Press the new stationary seat in squarely and keep both seal faces spotless, because a fingerprint or a speck of grit on a face is enough to cause a leak. A little soapy water helps the rubber parts slide on; avoid grease on the faces. Prime the pump with water before switching on, as running a new seal dry can damage its faces very quickly.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the size of your old seal.
