Voltage is a ceiling, not a target: this 250V start capacitor replaces one rated 250V or lower (110V, 125V, 165V and 220V US-market parts are common), never one rated higher. If your old start cap says 330V or 450V, this is not the right part. Match the printed µF; if the label shows a range, pick a listed value inside it, or the next one above the bottom that is no more than about 5% over the top.
What you're buying
A 400µF 250VAC motor start capacitor in the CD60 body, designed to give the motor a high-torque kick at startup, then drop out via a centrifugal switch or relay. It's the flying-lead build: two pre-attached insulated leads, already terminated with crimp lugs, ready to land on screw terminals or a connector block.
µF (capacitance) and voltage are the two specs that matter for fitment. For a start capacitor, match the printed µF (this part is ±5%) and if the label shows a range, pick a listed value inside it, or the next one above the bottom that is no more than about 5% over the top; going under leaves the motor humming without breaking away. Voltage must be equal or higher than the original: a 250VAC unit suits any start capacitor rated 250V or below, never one rated higher.
Commonly used for
- Compressors & air tools: typical range 50-500µF · 250V
Which terminal do I need?
This is the flying-lead build of the 400µF start cap: two pre-attached insulated leads, already terminated with crimp lugs. Land them on the screw terminals or connector block the old capacitor used. If the old part had ¼" push-on spade tabs, the lugs still fit the same wiring: add a crimp spade receptacle to each lead rather than pushing on. The capacitor is non-polarised, so the two leads are interchangeable.
Construction
- round aluminium can rated for short-duty motor-start cycles only, never a substitute for a motor-run capacitor.
- Aluminium electrolytic, non-polarised: intermittent start duty only; never left in circuit.
- ±5% capacitance tolerance · 50/60 Hz · −40°C to +70°C.
- Mounting: Loose / bracket clip.
- Terminal: Flying Lead.
What not to buy this for
- Don't run this continuously. Motor-start caps are designed to drop out within a few seconds; leaving one in circuit will burn it out within hours.
- Don't substitute this for a CBB60/CBB65 motor-run capacitor of similar µF: the CD60 body is for short-duty motor-start cycles only.
- Don't buy by µF alone: physical size (100 × 50 mm (length × diameter)) needs to fit the housing, and the terminal style (Flying Lead) needs to match your existing wiring or you'll need an adapter.

Common questions
Can I fit this 250V start capacitor in place of one rated 125V, 165V or 220V?
Voltage is a ceiling, not a target: this 250V start capacitor replaces one rated 250V or lower (110V, 125V, 165V and 220V US-market parts are common), never one rated higher. If your old start cap says 330V or 450V, this is not the right part. Match the printed µF; if the label shows a range, pick a listed value inside it, or the next one above the bottom that is no more than about 5% over the top.
Can I use it in place of a 330V or 450V start capacitor?
No. The voltage rating is the maximum the capacitor can withstand, so you can go up but never down. A start capacitor marked 330V or 450V needs a replacement rated at least that high, so this 250V part is not it.
How closely does the 400µF capacitance need to match my old capacitor?
Match the printed value. This part is ±5%, so it is in specification between about 380 and 420µF. If your old capacitor shows a range, choose a listed value inside it. If none sits inside, use the next listed value above the bottom of the range, never below it, and no more than about 5% above the top. For example, a label reading 368-432µF includes 400µF, so 400µF is the pick. If no listed value fits your range, contact us with a photo of the label before ordering.
