The capacitor listed to suit the DAB Jet 82M is a 12 µF (12 uF / 12 MFD), 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with core leads. It stays connected while the motor runs, giving the start winding the phase shift it needs to start and run smoothly. Before ordering, read the µF value printed on your old capacitor: if it shows anything other than 12 µF, order that value instead.
Choosing the right capacitor for the DAB Jet 82M
Three things matter when you replace a run capacitor. The capacitance (µF, uF or MFD on the label) must match the old one, normally within about 5%; too little and the motor struggles, too much and it runs hot. The voltage can be the same or higher than the old capacitor, never lower, and 450 VAC covers the usual 230 V household supply with margin. Finally, check how it connects: this one has core leads, short wires that are joined into the pump’s wiring rather than pushed onto spade tags.
The same 12 µF 450 V rating is also listed under its plain spec as our CBB60 12 µF capacitor.
Signs the Jet 82M capacitor is failing
- The motor hums but won’t turn, or only starts if the shaft is flicked round by hand.
- It trips the breaker or overload soon after starting.
- The motor runs slow and hot, or the pump pressure is lower than it used to be.
- The old capacitor case is swollen, cracked or leaking oil.
Swapping the Jet 82M capacitor safely
Switch the pump off at the wall and unplug it or isolate it at the switchboard before opening the terminal box. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, so discharge it through a resistor or a bleed tool before touching the terminals. Take a photo of the wiring first, connect the new leads to the same points as the old ones, and secure the capacitor so it can’t rub on anything. If you are not confident working on mains wiring, have an electrician fit it.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.
