The mechanical seal that fits the DAB DP151 is a 15 mm shaft seal with carbon / ceramic faces, and it replaces DAB seal number 100M/16. The same CapacitorsNZ replacement seal is also listed for several DAB K models, including the K30/100 and K45/50. Measure the shaft or compare your old seal with the photos before fitting.
DAB DP151 seal size and part number
A mechanical seal is a two-part assembly. A spring-loaded rotating head rides on the shaft, and a stationary seat sits in the pump body. The two lapped faces run against each other on a thin film of water, which is what keeps the pump from leaking along the shaft.
- Shaft size: 15 mm.
- Faces: carbon / ceramic.
- Replaces: DAB 100M/16.
Which pumps use the same seal
The DP151 seal is also listed for the DAB K12/200, DAB K14/400, DAB K30/70, DAB K30/100, DAB K35/40, DAB K36/100, DAB K45/50 and DAB K55/50.
It is also listed for the DAB DP100, DAB KH35/100 and KH40/100, Davies JET Series 2.0-3.0Hp, Davies K Series 1.5Hp, Davies KA Series 1.5-2.0Hp, Ebara 2CDX, CD, CDX, JE and JEX, Grundfos JPF4, JPF5 and JPF7, Onga OCS 401-405, and Pentax CAB, CM150, CM200, CM300, TE and TF-JET. The same seal is sold on its own as our 15 mm pump mechanical seal.
Signs the DP151 seal has failed
Replace a seal as soon as it starts weeping. Water running along the shaft into the motor is a common way pump motors lose their bearings.
- Water dripping from the gap between the pump body and the motor.
- A damp patch, scale or rust streak under the motor.
- The pump cycling on and off with every tap closed. A leaking seal is one possible cause, but a faulty non-return valve or pressure tank can do the same, so check for water at the seal first.
Fitting the DP151 seal
Turn off and unplug the pump, drain it, then separate the pump body from the motor to reach the impeller and seal. Always fit the new rotating head and the new seat together; never pair a new half with an old one. Keep the faces clean and free of grit, don’t touch them with your fingers, and use clean water or a little soapy water rather than grease to ease the parts into place.
With the pump apart it is worth checking the run capacitor as well: the DAB DP151 service kit pairs this seal with the 30 µF (30 uF / 30 MFD) capacitor listed for the same pump. Seals for other DAB models are under DAB service kits.
Before you order
Check the old part before fitting: match the size of your old seal.
