About this part

The Davey Silensor SLS100 pool pump is listed with a 12 µF (12 uF / 12 MFD) run capacitor. This CapacitorsNZ part is a 12 µF, 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with lug (spade) terminals, to suit the single-phase 1.0 kW motor on the SLS100. Before ordering, read the µF value printed on your old capacitor and check that it says 12 µF.

Choosing a capacitor for the Davey Silensor SLS100

The model on the pump label, SLS100 or SLS100E, tells you which pump you have, but the capacitor actually fitted is what decides the replacement. Pull the motor’s terminal cover (with the power off) and read the old capacitor: the value appears as µF, uF or MFD. If it reads 12 µF with a voltage of 450 V or less, this one matches. If it shows a different number, order that value instead. Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off, so discharge the old one safely before touching its terminals.

A run capacitor needs the same µF as the one it replaces and a voltage rating equal to or higher than the old one. Our Silensor SLS100 capacitor guide walks through reading the label, and the same 12 µF part is also sold as a plain 12 µF 450 V CBB60 capacitor.

Signs the SLS100 capacitor is failing

On a single-phase motor like this one the run capacitor stays in circuit the whole time the pump runs, so as it weakens the motor loses starting torque and works harder.

  • The motor hums but the shaft doesn’t turn, or it only starts after a nudge.
  • The breaker or motor overload trips soon after switch-on.
  • The motor runs hot or sounds laboured.
  • The capacitor case is swollen, split or leaking.

Other Davey pumps listed with the same 12 µF capacitor

These Davey models are also listed with a 12 µF 450 VAC capacitor: Davey Silensor SLS75, Davey Silensor SLS150, Davey Silensor SLS200, Davey HS50, Davey HS60, Davey Dynaprime, Davey PACR100, Davey PCCR100, Davey PCCR150 and Davey XP Series.

Doing a seal at the same time? The Davey Silensor SLS100 service kit bundles this capacitor with the 5/8″ seal, and parts for other Davey models are on our Davey service kits page.

Before you order

Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.

Questions

What size capacitor does a Davey Silensor SLS100 take?

The Davey Silensor SLS100 is listed with a 12 µF 450 VAC run capacitor. Match the µF printed on your old capacitor; if it shows a different value, order that value.

My SLS100 capacitor shows a different µF. Which should I buy?

Go by the value printed on the old capacitor in your Silensor SLS100, not the listing. If it isn't 12 µF, order the capacitor that matches it.

Can I use a higher voltage capacitor on a Silensor SLS100?

Yes, a higher voltage rating is fine as long as the µF matches. This 450 VAC capacitor suits a Silensor SLS100 whose old capacitor reads 12 µF and shows 450 V or less.

What terminals does the Silensor SLS100 capacitor have?

This 12 µF capacitor for the Silensor SLS100 has lug (spade) terminals. Compare them with the connectors on your old capacitor before fitting.

My Silensor SLS100 hums but won't start. Is it the capacitor?

A humming motor that won't turn is a classic sign of a failed run capacitor on a single-phase pump like the Silensor SLS100. A seized shaft can cause the same symptom, so check the shaft spins freely by hand with the power off.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
