About this part

The capacitor listed for the Davey XP Series is a 12 µF (12 uF / 12 MFD), 450 VAC CBB60 motor-run capacitor with lug (spade) terminals. The XP Series covers several model codes, so check and match the µF value printed on your old capacitor: if it says 12 µF this is the right part, and if it shows another value, order that value instead.

Choosing the right capacitor for the Davey XP Series

XP Series pumps are labelled with codes such as XP500, XP700 and XP900, with H versions of each. Those codes help you confirm the pump is an XP, but the capacitor value can vary between motors, so the number to trust is the one printed on the old capacitor. It is usually shown as µF, uF or MFD, often with a tolerance such as ±5%.

A replacement needs the same µF value and a voltage rating at least as high as the original. This one is a 450 VAC part, a common rating for capacitors on 230 V single-phase pump motors. Our Davey XP capacitor guide has more detail, and the same rating is sold on its own as a 12 µF 450 V CBB60 capacitor. If the seal is also due, the Davey XP Series service kit pairs this capacitor with a 1/2″ seal.

Signs the XP Series capacitor has failed

  • The motor hums but won’t turn, or only starts if the shaft is flicked by hand.
  • The pump trips the breaker or its thermal overload soon after starting.
  • The motor runs slow and hot, or the capacitor case is swollen, cracked or oily.

Testing and replacing the XP Series capacitor safely

Isolate the pump at the switchboard before removing the terminal cover. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, so discharge it across the terminals with a resistor on insulated leads before handling. A multimeter with a capacitance setting will show whether the old one has dropped well below the value printed on its side. Note or photograph which wire goes to which lug before you pull them off, then refit them to the same lugs on the new part.

Other Davey pumps listed with a 12 µF capacitor

The same 12 µF 450 VAC rating is listed for the Davey Dynaprime, Davey HS50, Davey HS60, Davey PACR100, Davey PCCR100, Davey PCCR150, Davey Silensor SLS75, SLS100, SLS150 and SLS200.

Before you order

Check the old part before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor.

Questions

What size capacitor does a Davey XP Series take?

The Davey XP Series is listed with a 12 µF 450 VAC run capacitor with lug terminals. Always match the µF printed on your old capacitor, and order that value if it differs.

Does every Davey XP pump, like the XP900H, use 12 µF?

Don't assume so. The Davey XP Series covers several model codes, so check the µF printed on the old capacitor in your XP900H or other XP pump and order that value.

Can I fit a higher voltage capacitor to my Davey XP Series?

Yes. On a Davey XP Series a higher voltage rating is fine as long as the µF matches, but never fit a capacitor rated at a lower voltage than the original.

How do I know if the capacitor on my Davey XP Series has failed?

A Davey XP Series pump that hums without turning, starts only when the shaft is spun by hand, or trips the overload usually has a weak capacitor. A capacitance reading well under the printed value confirms it.

What terminals does the XP Series capacitor have?

This capacitor for the Davey XP Series has lug (spade) terminals. Check that your old capacitor uses the same terminal type before ordering.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
