A service kit to suit the AstralPool CX180 contains two CapacitorsNZ aftermarket parts: a mechanical seal for a 3/4″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces, replacing Astral 75508 and Onga 700270, and a 20 µF (20 uF / 20 MFD) 450 VAC CBB60 run capacitor with core leads. The kit costs less than buying the seal and capacitor separately. Check your old seal size and the µF printed on your old capacitor before fitting.
What’s in the service kit to suit the AstralPool CX180
Both parts are CapacitorsNZ aftermarket parts to suit the CX180, and each is also sold individually if you only need one. Outside the kit, the seal is also listed without a model name as our 3/4″ pool pump shaft seal, and the capacitor as a plain 20 µF flying-lead run capacitor.
- Mechanical seal for the CX180: 3/4″ shaft, carbon / ceramic faces, replaces Astral 75508 and Onga 700270. Comes as the spring-loaded rotating half plus the stationary seat.
- Run capacitor for the CX180: 20 µF, 450 VAC, CBB60 cylinder body with core leads.
Why service the CX180 seal and capacitor together
Changing a shaft seal means isolating the power, splitting the motor away from the wet end and taking the impeller off. With the pump already isolated and opened up, swapping the capacitor at the same time is only a few minutes’ extra work, and it means one shutdown instead of two.
A seal that has been weeping lets water track along the shaft toward the motor bearings, so it is worth replacing at the first sign of a leak. A run capacitor slowly loses capacitance with heat and age until the motor starts hard or runs warm. If the pump has been slow to start, the capacitor is the first thing to check, and having the matching 20 µF part on hand during the seal job saves a second trip.
General order of work for a seal and capacitor change
These are general steps for a typical pool pump with a mechanical seal, not CX180-specific instructions. Follow your pump’s own instructions where they differ, and get an electrician to do any wiring you’re not comfortable with.
- Turn off and unplug or isolate the pump, close any valves and let the pressure off.
- Discharge the old capacitor before touching its leads, note how it is wired, then fit the new one the same way.
- Separate the motor from the pump body, hold the shaft and unscrew the impeller.
- Remove both halves of the old seal, clean the seat recess, and press the new stationary seat in squarely.
- Slide the new rotating half onto the shaft, refit the impeller, reassemble, then fill and prime before switching on.
Check the old CX180 parts before you order
Look at the old parts first: measure the shaft where the seal sits, and read the µF value printed on the side of the old capacitor. If your capacitor shows a value other than 20 µF, buy the seal on its own and choose the capacitor value that matches. Not sure? Send us a photo of the old parts and the pump label. Kits for other AstralPool models are on the AstralPool service kits page.
Before you order
Check the old parts before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor and the size of your old seal.
