About this part

The AstralPool CX280 service kit contains two aftermarket parts: a mechanical seal to suit a 3/4″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces, replacing Astral 75508 and Onga 700270, and a 20 µF (20 uF / 20 MFD) 450 VAC CBB60 run capacitor with core leads. There is no bearing set in this kit. Before fitting, match the µF printed on your old capacitor and compare your old seal with the photos.

What’s in the AstralPool CX280 service kit

Each kit holds one shaft seal and one run capacitor to suit the CX280. Both are also sold on their own if you only need one: the seal is the same part as our 3/4″ pool pump seal, and the capacitor is our general 20 µF CBB60 capacitor.

Why service the CX280 seal and capacitor together

Getting at the seal means isolating the power, draining the pump and separating the motor from the wet end. The capacitor sits on the same motor, so once the pump is on the bench it costs very little extra time to fit a fresh one as well.

Run capacitors lose capacitance gradually with heat and age, and a weak one often goes unnoticed until the motor starts struggling to get going. Renewing it during a seal job means you are not opening the pump up again a few months later for a separate fault.

Order of work for a CX280 seal and capacitor job

Turn the pump off at the wall and isolate it, then let the capacitor sit for a few minutes before touching its terminals, as it can hold a charge. Photograph the wiring before disconnecting anything. If you are not confident with mains wiring, have an electrician do this part. Swap the capacitor first while the motor is still mounted, then move on to the seal: release the motor from the pump body, take off the impeller, and remove both halves of the old seal before pressing in the new seat. Refit, fill with water so the new seal never runs dry, and restart.

Check your CX280 parts before you order

Read the µF value printed on your old capacitor and compare your old seal with the photos. If either does not match the CX280 data above, contact us with a photo of the pump label and old parts. Unused parts can come back under our returns policy, and kits to suit other AstralPool pumps are listed under AstralPool service kits.

Before you order

Check the old parts before fitting: match the µF printed on your old capacitor and the size of your old seal.

Questions

What is in the AstralPool CX280 service kit?

A mechanical seal for a 3/4″ shaft with carbon / ceramic faces, and a 20 µF 450 VAC CBB60 run capacitor with flying leads. Both suit the AstralPool CX280.

Does the CX280 kit include bearings?

No. The AstralPool CX280 kit is a seal and capacitor only; there is no bearing set listed for this model.

Can I buy the CX280 seal or capacitor separately?

Yes. The AstralPool CX280 mechanical seal and capacitor each have their own listing, so you can buy just the part you need.

Which Astral part number does the CX280 kit seal replace?

The seal in the AstralPool CX280 kit replaces Astral 75508, and also Onga 700270.

Do I need to change the capacitor if only the seal is leaking?

Not strictly, but the AstralPool CX280 is already apart for the seal job, so it is a convenient time to renew an ageing capacitor. If your old one shows a different µF value from 20 µF, buy the seal on its own and match the capacitor separately.

What if it doesn't fit?

If you're unsure, send us a photo of your old part and the pump's label before ordering.
